A Fan Sub Sandwich!
Posted by The Dave
In this round of From the Fans, we’ve got plenty of submissiony goodness to share. Let’s have a look, shall we? (Or should I say, a taste? Or perhaps a bite? Ohohoho.)
First up are the two music submissions. One comes from yeroc who’s created a new iterpretation of the Snowman theme. Creative and original, definitely good stuff. The other comes from Robok, and for a first game tune, I’d say it was pretty good! I’d have more to say, but I’m not much of a musician!
Next up are two lovely drawings from Niya featuring Chase, Floyd and Meryl. I’d say Niya got the character designs down pretty well. Well done!
Third strongest in line are some good ol’ sprite sheets. We’ve got three this round coming from Fandangox and scytheholder. Fandangox brings us a three-in-one with some clever enemy ideas including a bum, an old cell phone, and fake money. Scytheholder’s brought a familiar enemy back for a revamp, and has given life to a black cat mask! My superstition sense is tingling! There’s also some spooky floating eye enemies in there too. I smell a theme!
Last but not least we’ve got some ideas and suggestions. In this round there are twelve new ideas from Billyryan, blue rope snake, EarthboundMike, lostaname, Luigi, MalixDexide, RoboDuck, Sidney Mak, and Labrynian Rebel. They’re all quite interesting, but don’t take my word for it, read them for yourself!
And that concludes this episode of From the Fans! Now to find a sub sandwich…

Cool submissions! This game looks like it’s coming along great!
June 1st, 2010 at 2:14 am
They look really good guys
Especially like the enemy ideas!
June 1st, 2010 at 7:11 am
I’ve been waiting for this!
Thanks for posting my ideas! I think I’ll start posting again.
June 1st, 2010 at 9:21 am
haha, I don’t know what happened, but the lead violin I had in the song almost completely disappeared on this site:P
June 1st, 2010 at 12:00 pm
Nice update! Robok’s theme was really good! I also like the Magiciant idea!
June 1st, 2010 at 7:22 pm
AwesomeNess xD Maybe I should submit something too
June 1st, 2010 at 7:57 pm
The beggar was really funny, along with the other enemies Fandangox came up with
June 1st, 2010 at 10:08 pm
Yay!
Wait a minute…*growls*
Great, now you made me hungry. Great to see it going so popular still!
June 2nd, 2010 at 6:57 pm
I was just thinking, if we have Flutune as a town, will we be expecting a obodouse saxophontrese clarinecatrot?
June 3rd, 2010 at 1:14 am
Thanks for posting my ideas, i’m honored!
(I hope they make it to the game…)
June 3rd, 2010 at 8:03 pm
Thanks Labrynian! Im glad you liked them!
June 4th, 2010 at 10:39 am
Your welcome
June 7th, 2010 at 2:09 am
YES!!!
June 8th, 2010 at 5:39 am
In the night of June 7th 2010, I dreamed about battling King Osohe!
X3
June 8th, 2010 at 5:50 am
To Luigi:
That…was unexpected
Nevertheless, glad your subconciousness liked it.
June 8th, 2010 at 8:26 am
Yay, my idea was liked! <3
June 8th, 2010 at 6:15 pm
My brain just worked!
June 9th, 2010 at 5:24 am
I wonder what the final boss is. Don’t tell me!
June 9th, 2010 at 7:45 am
June 9th, 2010 at 7:47 am
Oh yes! I’m thinking of drawing the king Osohe!
June 9th, 2010 at 11:34 am
To Luigi:
I would be honored!
To everyone:
I saw this tv programme the other day talking about how black holes tear apart the fabric of space-time. Thats how I more or less got my idea for PK Crash. Of course, harnessing the power of a black hole could make an enemy more than KO’ed…
June 14th, 2010 at 8:18 pm
Whoawhoawhoa… This is gonna be a real game!? You guys are awesome.
So when is it gonna be released.
June 14th, 2010 at 9:27 pm
Check out the FAQs and all of your
wildest dreams will come truequestions will be answered.June 15th, 2010 at 12:07 am
The Dave’s been here??!
I wonder if he noticed the little thread above…
June 15th, 2010 at 11:36 pm
Nearly finished with King Osohe!
XP
June 16th, 2010 at 3:58 pm
I’ve been trying out different tunes for a song…
My microphone makes the music sound horrible though.
June 17th, 2010 at 11:58 pm
I guess Luigi is working on King Osohe’s look for a while already. I hope he makes the next update!
June 24th, 2010 at 4:25 pm
Hey Dave, how do I delete one of my submissions? I accidentally uploaded the wrong version of my “Love 1″.
June 25th, 2010 at 2:17 am
Ask us somehow. Post a comment, send a contact form email, or write a note in the description of the file you upload to replace the old one. We’ll fix it up for you.
If you’d like us to remove some/all of your uploads for good, send us a contact form email.
June 27th, 2010 at 11:39 am
How come you haven’t updated in a while? You’re leaving me at the edge of my seat.
June 27th, 2010 at 12:41 pm
^ They’ll give us updates when they’re ready. As was previously stated, C++ takes a while. We just have to assume that steady progress is being made in the mean time. After all, there is no reason to believe the opposite to be true.
June 27th, 2010 at 4:07 pm
Right now there’s not much to show. I’m still working on the engine, and most of that stuff is the boring behind the scenes stuff. Everyone is working though, so don’t think we’ve quit this thing.
You could think of the development process of this game as the development process of a commercial game. (Except probably slower since this isn’t our job.) ie. we’ll only show you things when 1. we have something that looks close to final, (think battle system, menus, towns, sprites) 2. we’re close to release, or 3. some sort of special event happens. (Think E3, except in our case it’s the NCFC.) Those are listed in no particular order.
So in the meantime, pop our RSS feed into whatever reader/aggregator you use, and when we make an update, it’ll show up there. You don’t even have to check this website.
June 28th, 2010 at 12:55 am
Great Dave. Now you just made me even more nervous.
I expect Luigi is making progress?
June 28th, 2010 at 12:51 pm
They all look interesting and fitting! I especially liked the Magicant idea.
June 28th, 2010 at 3:26 pm
Hey, the new Sadness themes made by Kevin are really good
July 3rd, 2010 at 10:04 am
I still recall OcularBleeding’s idea of a mysterious girl that worked for the ‘bad dude’. What if she was way more than everyone assumed?
I’ll try and squeeze in one more idea.
July 5th, 2010 at 9:34 am
>_<
Crud. An unusual comment.
I don't think PEELZ have ANYTHING to do with this thread! clear off!
July 5th, 2010 at 9:57 am
My computer got errors and lost my data T.T
July 5th, 2010 at 10:13 am
But Luckily I found my paper work.
^.^
July 5th, 2010 at 3:18 pm
Dang. WordPress is usually good about letting me know when something like that gets posted. My apologies to anyone who happened to click the link.
July 7th, 2010 at 9:21 am
I wasn’t an idiot, so i didn’t click it.
Humor me, what DOES it link to? PEELZ?
July 7th, 2010 at 1:26 pm
Probably some online “store” where you can “buy” things like “medicine” and other “drugs” that have certainly been “approved by the FDA.” You’ll probably end up with some malware or your credit card number stolen or something like that.
It was just some regular ol’ spam.
July 8th, 2010 at 12:49 am
Oh taht was disappointing. I thought it would be some sort of virus which would print smiley faces all over your serious stuff.
Nonetheless, i got work to do.
(I did mention i live on the other side of the world, right?)
July 8th, 2010 at 7:38 am
I wish Chaisu or the Azure team can add more screenshots to their screenshots page.
July 8th, 2010 at 2:14 pm
All in due time.
July 9th, 2010 at 11:58 pm
-.-
July 10th, 2010 at 10:20 am
I check back every day just to make sure, but i’ll be away for a week starting monday.
I hope you guys end up with progress then, or i will be thouroughly disappointed. >:D
July 18th, 2010 at 10:35 am
I’m back. I’m thouroughly disappointed. D:<
Nevermind, I manage to refine OcularBleeding's idea while i was away. If Dave has room for one more character, i'm happy to oblige!
July 18th, 2010 at 4:07 pm
Characters aren’t really up to me. I just program them.
I guess it kinda seems like I’m the lead on this project since I manage the website, huh. Fun fact: I’m just the programmer/webmaster/graphic design guy. Though I do help out with the story side of things every now and again.
July 18th, 2010 at 10:31 pm
OK, see if you can get Chaisu or whoever to get over here.
Can you spell…..hitlady?
July 21st, 2010 at 1:51 pm
Look, if Chaisu gives the word, i’ll type up the idea. It’s a relatively complicated and long one, and it COULD make the game a bit more……better i guess?
If i could, I’ll even throw in a more detailed description so that some of those talented artists around here can draw ‘er!
Not a bad option by my standards. If you read this, Dave, get Chaisu over here, even if you have to tie ‘im up!
July 21st, 2010 at 2:31 pm
If it’s something you’d like to submit, you don’t need our approval to submit it. It’ll get put up as long as it follows the fan stuff submission guidelines.
July 21st, 2010 at 3:48 pm
I know that very well! I am just worried it will clash with whatever you guys had boiling in that pot! No sense ruining a good meal is there?
July 23rd, 2010 at 6:32 am
I had to get you guys’ approval, because this one idea i hadn’t posted yet could turn the storyline upside down! I don’t want to recieve hate-mail from hotheads within your group for overhauling the entire game and persistent fans for extending the deadline for a few months longer!
(not that I read the mail a lot these days…)
July 24th, 2010 at 1:03 am
Arright. Don’t worry about it then. We’d rather not change the storyline at this point.
July 24th, 2010 at 4:54 am
Then again, I guess it doesn’t affect the storyline too much.
However, it COULD impact Chase’s background story and who was second in command to the problems in the game.
I did say Chase, right?
This character I came up with was hitgirl to the ‘bad dude’ and at a different time Chase’s penpal at more peaceful times, though they don’t know each other by face since they communicate telepathically. This hitgirl was unfortunately told to assasinate Chase, which could lead to somewhat dramatic scenes if their history is found out.
I’ll type up a larger detail if i can bother to do so. In the meantime, tell everyone to hold their breath.
July 26th, 2010 at 8:58 pm
Can I ask something???
Can I change my username from Luigi to NewSupaLuigiBros???
July 27th, 2010 at 2:09 pm
If Chaisu were to change the background story now, the game will be enjoying its glory years in Japan by the time he publishes it. Fact!
July 28th, 2010 at 3:11 pm
It is done.
*bows head*
Good luck.
July 29th, 2010 at 1:38 am
I was looking through the older entries on the site and realized that today (July 28, 2010) is the one year anniversary of the first couple entries on the site! It seems like you guys have come really far since then, and would like to congratulate you. It’s a shame that trailer never came out though…
July 29th, 2010 at 12:36 pm
I have to thank OcularBleeding for the original concept of my idea.
Then again, i think i already thanked him 4 or 5 times in the submission already.
July 29th, 2010 at 1:04 pm
P.S: I just checked out Luigi’s drawing.
One problem though: King Oshoe is in the wrong timeline!
Nah, just kidding. I like it!
July 29th, 2010 at 2:40 pm
Sorry about the triple post.
I just saw Hatsune Miku in a video on youtube.
Assuming a tiny fraction of the people that help out here also happen to know her, I think Eloise should have a hairstyle like that, though the hair could be shorter…
I must note some of the Vocaloid songs out there are just as disturbing as Giygas, so I manage to find a connection where there should be none. Just listen to Fear Garden or Dark Wood Circus, for example.
Sorry for throwing such an unrelated comment up here. But I recall the Earthbound universe had once contacted the Vocaloid universe. Check this link! http://earthboundcentral.com/2009/12/cool-mother-3-music-video-thing/
Some of you that read this may wonder: Who the heck is Eloise? Check my subs in the future.
July 30th, 2010 at 6:26 pm
Is anybody else finding this Sidney Mak guy really annoying? It’s really bad when I become a member just to say so.
July 31st, 2010 at 1:47 am
HEY! >:(
For those that DO find me annoying, I check back EVERY DAY just in case anything is going on! A large amount of comments ain’t any surprise!
Fine, I won’t post any commentary until next update.
July 31st, 2010 at 5:32 pm
does anyone here know a launch date for this game???????????????????????
August 1st, 2010 at 10:32 am
@Sidney Mask: Maaaybe Mr.Juicy find you a little annoying because you always talked about your ideas like it will somehow affect the game, when the truth is maybe only like 0.5% (or none at all) of fan submissions is actually used. Just saying. No hard feeling, okay? Your ideas is actually decent enough.
@neron642: I highly doubt anyone here know, even The Dave. It can be years from the look of it.
NOW, how about we talk about the secrets in this website? I’ve found several that I THINK might be some of those secrets, CMIIW
- Error Chase
- Mr.Saturn’s hat
- Pollyanna’s lyric
- Zephy’s girlfriend
- Graffiti
- Only one red herring
- Monthy Phyton’s quotes
- A clue to find the secret above/Mario’s princess is in another castle ;3
- Mr.Saturn rain
- Giygas drawing
- Jonathan Coulton singing Still Alive
- Daisy Bell’s lyric (this one is the hardest IMO)
Are there more?
August 1st, 2010 at 10:32 am
Oh, I just got ninja’ed. I blame my tl;dr post.
August 1st, 2010 at 2:21 pm
The number of question marks in your post is inversely related to the likelihood of receiving an answer.
Nonetheless, there is no set release date for this game. While you’re here though, check out the faqs.
August 1st, 2010 at 5:33 pm
Niya, did you mention the “The Dave was here! Zoom!” secret?
Apparently, from -GR and an e-mail from The Dave, I started the Mother 4 website secret search. Sadly, I didn’t follow up on the secrets and now I’m way far behind
August 1st, 2010 at 11:47 pm
I didn’t find that one. Any hint? *winkwinknudgenudge* I’m just too tired to look at those source codes all over again, lol.
And… what is “-GR”? Sorry, English is not my first language.
August 2nd, 2010 at 1:12 pm
Thanks Niya. Now I have the encouragement to break my silence.
I know you said only around 0.5% of fan ideas are probably used. But then, this is a fan game. so fan ideas are used as much as concrete is used for a building. It was Chaisu that made the infrastructure, but it is our duty to cover it with fan ideas and therefore make it a success.
What got me worried about my one idea in particular is that it spans across the entire game rather than just occuring in one moment just like most of the ideas around here. Also, when I made the idea I used my own set of blueprints. It was based on Chaisu’s infrastructure, but without the whole picture, it may clash with the original infrastructure and make the entire thing collapse. Thats what got me nervous.
Of course, if Mr Juicy just had to make an account just to troll me, he will HAVE to post at least one idea or it is heresy! XD
Now, you may wonder why I bought Vocaloids into the picture, even though they had absolutely nothing to do with the Mother series. The point is, the Mother series may be accepted by us, but we are isolated compared to all the other game series made by Nintendo. Some say it was actually Nintendo of America itself that wanted it that way, but I’m not too sure. Lucas and Ness definitely appeared in SSBB, but thats it.
What got me interested in Vocaloids is that their influence is so large you could trace a bridge to anywhere you could imagine. I managed to link to some Vocaloid songs in Youtube starting from a Gmod video, unbelivably enough.
I belive there is one bridge connecting us to the Vocaloids and esssentially the outside world, and that is the link I posted above. Trouble is, one bridge ain’t enough to attract attention.
Thats where I saw that Mother 4 can be more than just a fan game. It could be our bridge that could bring us out of the backstreets into the world. If we could get RaishiTsuwabuki on our side, we may be able to get much more attention from wanderers in the net as well as Mother fans. Once word spreads out, the Mother series will be bought back into the light like when it was in its glory days.
I would understand if Chaisu wanted some peace and quiet. But its about time our era is here, non?
OK. Thats all i have to say for the time being. I better catch my breath
August 2nd, 2010 at 2:15 pm
@Sidney Mak. Niya pretty much summed up why I was annoyed. Why would you flood the page with posts about an idea when all you need to do is submit it? If Chaisu liked it, he’d incorporate it into the game, but he’s not going to rewrite the whole plot at this point in development. Even if he did, you already gave away that the “hitlady” and Chase’s “penpal” are the same person. And I shouldn’t have to post an idea of my own to validate my point. To be completely honest, I don’t have any ideas of my own, but that doesn’t mean I can’t complain that every other post is someone boasting about an idea that most likely will not make it into the game. Also honest: your idea, if done right, does have at least some potential, but just submit it instead of making it a chore to read the comments.
Online arguments are pretty pointless, so I’m not going to reply again and start a flame war. I made my point. Sorry my first post didn’t really demonstrate my point.
August 2nd, 2010 at 2:15 pm
My only complaint is that you seem almost arrogant in your idea and explanation…
August 2nd, 2010 at 3:17 pm
Ugh. Trolls.
On another note, when will the next update be?
August 2nd, 2010 at 3:19 pm
P.S: I meant to give it away, k?
August 2nd, 2010 at 9:22 pm
-GR is Gabriel Rodriguez (I think I spelled it right) from the Starmen.net forums. He even created an account here (that’s what -GR is- his name here on andonuts.net) and thanked me. I hope I clarified myself
August 2nd, 2010 at 10:04 pm
@yeroc: lol, now I feel stupid. Thanks for the clarification.
August 4th, 2010 at 3:32 am
I’m shocked at how some people see someone lodging a complaint as a troll.
And on the subject of the site, it has been quite a while since the last update…
August 4th, 2010 at 8:56 am
I cant wait for mother 4! I played earthbound and mother 3! I just cant wait for mother 4!!! OMG I CANT WAIT ONE MORE SECOND!!!
August 4th, 2010 at 11:22 am
To scytheholder:
You know, if it were me watching an annoyance on the comments section, I’d just keep the grumbling to myself and not bother about it.
But Mr Juicy INSISTS to post flaming comments just because I posted one too many comment! Cmon! I’d call THAT troll behavior, even if you don’t!
Hold on, let me catch my breath.*chills out*
And yes, I have to agree with you it was quite a while since last update. I wonder what Chaisu and co. are doing right now?
August 4th, 2010 at 4:46 pm
I did enjoy the Persistent Beggar idea by Fandangox. But as a side not, and really not a huge deal, I would prefer his grammar were a tad bit better for a good impression (rereading a joke for comprehension is not funny). Minor.
Funny Money did not seem to have.. character. How about, “Funny Money thought it was real, but it didn’t matter.”
Great work Fandangox.
August 4th, 2010 at 7:04 pm
I’m afraid to tell you that your the one acting more like a troll than I am, I am simply complaining about your behavior and arrogance, whereas you’re complaining about my viewpoint. Now drop the subject, maybe the next update will come sooner…
August 5th, 2010 at 2:32 am
OK.
Truce.
August 5th, 2010 at 7:10 am
I really have high hopes for this project but I’ve seen so many poor decisions being made in the material presented on this website that I have real doubts. I think the creators promise too much to the Mother series’ community, their attitude toward the development of the game is immature, and it was a serious mistake to take open submissions from fans.
I would suggest to the creators that they reevaluate their development strategy and take a more humble approach in presenting their work. I’ve made this criticism as constructive as I can. When you work on a project of this nature, making an unauthorized sequel to a popular game, you open yourself to this kind of criticism, so please take it in good humor.
Good luck everyone.
August 5th, 2010 at 7:11 pm
@ Blue: You say that they’ve made poor decisions on the project, but due to the scarcity of the material they’ve revealed, in addition to basically stating that all we’ve seen is outdated and not reflective of what the project currently looks like, I think that your claim is probably not a fair one to make. Though perhaps I misunderstand what you mean by “decisions.” If I do indeed misunderstand what you mean and therefore fail to address your statements, please let me know.
With regards to promising too much to the Mother series’ community, would you mind elaborating? What specifically have they promised us that is “too much?” I believe the objective of the project was to make a fan game as close to a real sequel as possible, and that is all that they’ve promised. Once more I must emphasize that very little of the work on the project has been made available to the community, and what is available is most likely out of date. Therefore, nobody is elegible to evaluate whether or not the creators have promised too much since nobody knows what they are capable of.
An immature attitude? I have a feeling that being all-business all the time would be a huge drain on the creators and would lessen morale. Additionally, you don’t know what sort of approach they take when actually doing work on the project. Again, I think this claim is invalid due to paucity of information available to the general public.
Lack of humility is an issue you have? Could you please cite an example so I can evaluate the claim? Perhaps my enthusiasm for this game has blinded me to a lack of humility, but it would be nice for me see an example of that to which you are referring.
I am not claiming the opposite of what you say is true (after all, I myself said that any sort of evaluation on these issues is unfair), but what you say cannot be proven true.
Let’s see what these guys are made of before we start with the criticisms, okay?
August 6th, 2010 at 1:40 am
Call me crazy, but it looks like its one disagreement after another.
Looks like the long no-update period is getting to everyone
August 6th, 2010 at 5:06 am
I thought that my comment spoke for itself and didn’t really want to cite specific examples in the hope that it would make my criticism a little more positive.I don’t want to seem overly negative in what I write here, but I doubt another carefully worded comment will give you the answer you want.
The creation of the site was a poor decision. Read back through a year of comments and updates and ask what the purpose of the site is. Besides fan updates, the posts refer to: a trailer that was never released, clay art, NCFC, an apology for the NCFC not being finished, an engine overhaul that set development back, creation of the Facebook page, a computer crash that set development back, and a site update. If it weren’t for “fan submissions” there wouldn’t really be much to this site at all.
Anyone that’s followed a fan project, like Tomato’s Mother 3 translation, should know that the projects that actually get finished usually refuse the kind of overexposure that this site has given. That overexposure, including the creation of the Facebook page and attempt at making a fan community for a non-existant game, are reflective of an immature attitude that places form before substance. In the world of fan games where it’s so uncommon for a project to see completion it shows a real lack of humility.
I was inspired to make this post by the criticisms I saw for Sidney Mak’s comments. It’s ridiculous to fault someone for feeling like they have some kind of input in the game when you ask them for that input in the first place. I’ve seen a few other posters go through the same process of coming in with a lot of enthusiasm to have others explain to them that “the truth is maybe only like 0.5% (or none at all) of fan submissions is actually used.” (thanks Niya) You’re promising too much by asking the fans for these submissions in the first place. Since the majority of this site is made up of those submissions, it seems like a fairly large mistake.
I think I’ve seen enough in a year of updates to this site to make these criticisms. I do have love for the project, especially what’s been released for the project’s official music, and I would hope that any developer would be open to an honest assessment of their work.
August 6th, 2010 at 12:02 pm
Blue made that post by my own silly comments?
I FAILED EVERYONE! WAHHHHH….
Now my enthusiasm is brought down by Mr Juicy, scytheholder AND Blue. I guess everyone hates me now.
*sigh*
August 6th, 2010 at 9:33 pm
@ Blue: Fair enough. I see your point. I guess I probably was blinded some by being a fan, and I think illuminating these issues may help avoid these issues in the future (that is, if there is the desire to do so). I cannot think of any reasonable objections to your argument.
