Fan Submissions!

Posted by The Dave

As you may or may not have noticed, there are two new pages in the Navigation section on the right-bar. Submit and Fan Art. To make a long story short, you can submit fan-things you make now!

Please read the guidelines before submitting something, and also remember that fan art updates will be periodic and not instantaneous. We have to review each piece you all submit, quality control you know?

For your convenience, here are the guidelines.

Submission Guidelines: (Please read before submitting!)

  • Accepted file types: .png, .jpeg, .gif, .mid, .mp3, .swf, .txt
  • File size limit: 3 megabytes, 6 for mp3 and swf files.
  • Maximum image dimensions: 1024 x 768 pixels
  • Please keep submissions family friendly! No nudity, profanity or other potentially offensive material.
  • Administrators may remove, or not post your submission if it does not adhere to these guidelines.

Unacceptable Submissions Include: (But are not limited to:)

  • Images or animations that lack apparent effort. (Images drawn in MS Paint in a few minutes will most likely be rejected.)
  • Audio that lacks decent sound quality. (Audio captured with a cell phone, for example, will probably not be acceptable quality.)
  • Text with frequent grammatical or spelling errors is unacceptable. (Text must also be in English, as this website is in English.)

We hope to see what all you can come up with! So, get to it!

    D:
    No .swf’s?

  3. Chase Anast Chaisu Says:

Hmm, we should really allow .swf
    Good point Gunstar :)

  4. The Dave The Dave Says:

    Flash animations are now accepted.

    Happy animating!

  5. Leoj Gunstar X Says:

    :D

  6. TCA Says:

My submission’s file size is too big. Sorry, I’ll make a smaller one next time.

  7. The Dave The Dave Says:

Quite alright. We’re still working the kinks out of the guidelines, so if anyone has any complaints about limitations or whatnot, please let us know here.

Also let us know if you encounter any problems or errors with the submission system.

  8. Christian Hatcher Zephys Says:

I have a complaint. I don’t know how to approve, and we don’t have a location to display once they’ve ben approved.

    That or I’m dense.

  9. The Dave The Dave Says:

I’m writing a how-to, don’t worry. But, did you see the Fan Art page? that’s where they’ll go. If we get submissions that aren’t pictures, they’ll get their own pages.

    And now you know.

  10. Christian Hatcher Zephys Says:

    And knowing is–*Shot*

  11. Fandangox Says:

With Submittions you guys mean like new content that could be put into the game? or artwork of the characters, places, etc

  12. The Dave The Dave Says:

We mean any artwork or music or animations you guys might come up with about the game. Fan art and the like.

  13. Fandangox Says:

Nice! Im looking forward to the game it looks really good so far.

  14. CalixJumi Says:

what about word or txt, i mean… submissions of pieces for the story. Maybe an specification of wich kind of pieces can be added, like the npc dialogs cause in mother 3 there was a lot of good ones, ones that are hardly to think of, or text pieces for mini quests like the one of that insect and his shit balls.

Or another one of text to submit is enemy description, cool ideas for fighting enemies like using DCMC stuff to mesmerize, using sort of combinations of items or just special ones to have an intersting effect.

  15. The Dave The Dave Says:

I don’t see why not. I had been thinking about allowing txt as well. I’ll get it enabled so all you writers out there can have at it. While I’m at it, I’ll update the guidelines to be more specific about what types of fan submissions are acceptable.

  16. Fandangox Says:

Now that CalixJumi brought that up, could I submit the same stuff, but in paint? I cannot use any Text program due to a problem my pc has, so could I submit NPC diologue and the like with paint?

  17. The Dave The Dave Says:

We’d really rather you use a text program.

Have you tried just using notepad?

    • Click start, then run, then type notepad.exe and click enter.
    • Or, press Windows Key + R, then type notepad.exe and click enter.
    • Or even just Start > Programs > Accessories > Notepad

If all else fails, there’s always Google Docs.

  18. Fandangox Says:

Wasnt able to save notepad work either… so since it is just text I submitted it in the Mother 4 thread in starmen.net
    Sorry

  19. The Dave The Dave Says:

Oh. I thought you were having problems with opening text programs, not saving files. Very odd.

  20. Enemy Lasagna Says:

You know what would be nice? The ability to leave comments for fan submissions. Let the artists know what you think about them.

  21. Christian Hatcher Zephys Says:

I have to agree with Lasagna.

  22. CalixJumi Says:

I cannot save text files too… and suggestions in comments/reply would be nice but will make a lot of space. I mean, create a Fan’s Text Submission, so that space can be used to submit ideas

  23. The Dave The Dave Says:

    OH.

When you guys say save you mean upload. I thought you meant you just couldn’t save files to your own computer for whatever reason.

The uploader has been fixed to allow text file uploads. It was caused by a mistake on my part.

And as for comments, I suppose I could do it but I can’t give any guarantees.

  24. Fandangox Says:

No, when I meant save I pretty much meant that I wasnt able to save text. files in my pc. My laptop is wierd. Luckilyt my misudertanding helped a little bit to fix the upload prolem xD

  25. gBev Says:

Anyone see the submission by the guy tojax? Guy’s a bit misinformed, heh.

  26. Christian Hatcher Zephys Says:

    It’s a nice gesture though.
